Rehabilitation Exam

A rehabilitation exam is your pet's first step in starting their canine physical therapy and rehab plan of care. Dr. Whitley will complete a musculoskeletal and neurologic exam to assess your pet's strength, function, mobility, and pain level. Rehabilitation treatments are then prescribed based on exam findings and your goals. Your pet's plan of care is tailored to fit you and your pet's needs.

Manual Therapy

Manual therapy is a skilled, hands-on treatment utilized by physical therapists and other rehabilitation professionals to decrease myofascial or joint-related pain, improve joint range of motion, improve muscle flexibility, decrease edema and swelling, and improve the function of muscles and joints.

LASER Therapy

LASER therapy (also called photobiomodulation) is a modality that stimulates specific cellular processes to promote tissue healing, decrease pain, and decrease inflammation. This is a wonderful treatment option for wounds or surgical incisions, post-operative healing, arthritic joint pain, muscular pain, and more.

Weight Management

Therapeutic Exercise

Exercise in a therapy setting is tailored specifically to your pet's diagnosis and needs. Exercises are prescribed and progressed to improve your pet's strength as well as their ability to participate in the activities they love.

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy

Targeted pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (tPEMF) is another modality that stimulates the body's own cellular processes to decrease pain, promote tissue healing, and decrease inflammation. Dr. Whitley can also recommend tPEMF products that you can use with your pet at home.

Assistive Device Fitting

Dr. Whitley is experienced in fitting a variety of assistive devices including OrthoPets custom orthotics, GoHero orthotics, TheraPaw braces and supports, dog wheelchairs (carts), and more. If your pet has been recommended an assistive device, Dr. Whitley can help you navigate that process.

Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy (or aquatic therapy) utilizes the therapeutic properties of water to relieve pain, offload painful joints, and provide resistance during therapeutic exercise. Dr. Whitley has experience in performing hydrotherapy treatments in both the human field as well as canine therapy field.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is an evidence informed treatment that uses the insertion of fine monofilament needles to improve myofascial pain and function. Dr. Whitley is trained in canine dry needling and trigger point management. Currently, this service is only offered in collaboration with your vet, as your dog may benefit from calming or sedative medication during the treatment.
